SING ALONG _ SOMEONE LIKE YOU (ADELE)

Guys, have you ever heard of Adele? If not, you should get to know her NOW! She is a British born singer who is making a huge success worldwide. If you want to know more about her, take a look at this page from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adele_(singer)). I hope you enjoy the song!

a. The girl in the song is wishing her ex love all the best. Do you think it`s a true feeling? Do you think it`s going to be easy for her to get over this man?
b. Who do you think was responsible for the break-up?
c. Do you think her ex love got over her? What makes you feel this way?

Someone Like You
Adele

I've heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now
I've heard that your dreams came true
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you

Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it

I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over

[Chorus]
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you two
Don't forget me, I bet I'll remember you say:
"Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead"
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead, yeah

You'd know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised in a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over
[Chorus]
Nothing compares, no worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes, they're memories made
Who would have known how bitter-sweet
This would taste?

ROYAL WEDDING

If you've been following the news, you probably know that one of the biggest and most commented marriages on Earth is about 4 days to go: Prince William and Kate's.

I found a very nice video on youtube that talks a bit about their encounter (try to answer the questions to check your comprehension!). I'm also posting an informative video showing the route the couple is going to pass by after the ceremony. Enjoy it!

Where did they meet and fall in love?
Did Kate use to look for William?
What kind of deal was done until William finished his studies?
What does the Royal Consultant say about media?

TRAVELLING AROUND THE WORLD

Hello guys!
Our student, Antonio Marcos, sent us some pictures from his last trip in Europe! He told me in person that was a fantastic experience and that English helped him a lot. Enjoy the pictures and read his own words!

Bee free to send us pictures too!

I can say that English helped me in those countries. In Italy a little, but in Paris, I had great opportunities to practice the language that I'm studying (Antonio Marcos)”

HOW TO IMPROVE MY ENGLISH _ WRITING SUPPORT

Hello guys!
I'm a bit sad 'cause nobody got the tickets for the cinema. =(
I'll think about another task to give you a second chance!

Today, I'm here to post some tips on how to improve your writing skill since you've got lots of compositions to do throughout the course. Take a look at some of them and be free to add new ideas!

1. Do not forget to add a title and paragraphs.

2. Divide your text into introduction, body and conclusion.

3.Before you start writing, organize your ideas into topics.

4. Use the vocabulary you learn during chapter and conversation classes.
5. Do some research on the internet for new ideas.

6. Make your text creative to the reader.

7. When you finish writing, read your text again to check spelling and other mistakes.

Take a look at the video below. Teacher Gloria is giving her contributions. She talks about the audience, authors you admire, online courses and books to brush up your grammar.

DO YOU WANT TO GET SOME CINEMA TICKETS?

Hello guys!

I'm here now for two reasons. First, to say that I'm looking foward to enjoying the next holiday. I still don't have any interesting plans, but the fact of being free from our usual actvities is itself good enough. Let it comes then! (There is a more special reason 'cause on the 20th is my B.D!)

Second and last, I'm here to give the most creative student on our blog TWO CINEMA TICKETS. You can watch any film at CINEMARK with them! If you don't have any plans yet, that's a good beginning.

How can you get them? You have to make a single sentence using the words ENGLISH, EASTER, RENEWAL and EGGS. The most creative sentence will give its owner two tickets.

Start thinking! You should post your sentences till Tuesday! Good luck!

See you!
Instructor Rafa.

VIDEOBLOG _ CHARLIE AND TEENAGE BOYS

Hello guys!
Today, I want to share a video from the series charlieisocool that I think you'll like a lot. The guy in the video is called Charlie and he is from England (which is excellent for you to practice British English). In his posts, he talks about many different issues in the format of videoblogs. At first, you'll think he speaks very fast, but if you give it try, you'll see that it isn't that hard to understand. In this video, specifically, he is talking about teenage boys. Enjoy the video!

But today, I'll leave a question as well. I'd like to see your comments!

HOW SIMILAR WERE YOU TO THIS KIND OF TEENAGER?

LOOKING FOR THE RABBIT OF TIME

Sometimes I feel that TIME is my worst enemy, do you feel the same? It happens that I've got so many things to do during the day, the week, the month, that I get the impression that I'm always on a hurry. Those who have to study and work at the same TIME know what I'm talking about.

This problem of having to find enough time increases when one of your activities is studying a language. I can tell you from experience 'cause besides being a English teacher, I'm still an English student (and I'll always be!). Speaking of the English course at the university iteself, I sometimes feel my life is getting out of control with so many texts and books to read, projects to hand in, seminars to deliver and tests to sit; I have to find a moment to breathe and rest. I believe it fits most of you as well.

Most students who get to talk to me complain about not having TIME to be as dedicate and hard-working as they wanted (needed) to be. That's true and I always believe them. But it, unfortunately, comes to be a problem: How can we find TIME in our schedule to dedicate ourselves to English studies? Bad (or good) news: there is not other way out, we must find TIME to add English to our daily routine. Without moments of dedication we go nowhere.

A good beginning would be taking more seriously the 30-minute study you are supposed to do at home. Make it part of your routine, just like taking the bus or having lunch. I believe that always styding  at the same time helps you a lot not to forget the Mnemônica day-by-day. Choose a specific time and make it a habit. Also, you can spend some extra time you have when you arrive or leave the school to catch up. Go to the study room and enjoy this time to the full. Read you books, magazines, surf the net and so forth.

Studying on the bus or on the subway can be profitable as well. I myself always manage to read a few pages on the boat on my way to Niteroi. You can give it a try! Classes on the weekends seem to be nice for those who have a busy week. Separating Saturday just for your English studies puts it on focus, and that's wonderful! Don't worry about beaches and malls, they're open till the evenings! lol

And you guys, do you have any tips on how to optimise time? Let's share ideas!

A MOMENT FOR A SERIOUS AND CAREFUL THOUGHT

I was browsing on google trying to find a picture to illustrate this post, a very difficult task I'd say. I chose this one for some reasons. Mainly, 'cause it shows happiness, successful study and the ONLY kind of experience children should have at school: studying to become better people.

On behalf of my colleagues and staff, I'm exposing my deepest feelings of sadness, pity and indignation.

See you around guys.
